Visiting Crewkerne
Come to Crewkerne!
Crewkerne has been a place of trade and markets for over a thousand years. Now, in 2012 we welcome you to come and share our town.
With a wide range of shops from traditional family butchers, delicatessen to the large supermarkets and our most recent newcomers, Waitrose & Lidl, Crewkerne offers something for everyone.
Amid the splendour of neo-classical styles of architecture, you will find unique shops alongside high street names. Around the town you can enjoy unspoilt countryside, fine views and great picnic spots; inside the historic town centre you can explore our heritage, visit our independent museum, 15thC parish church and drop in to find out what's on at our centre Local Information Centre at the Town Hall.
Whether you use Crewkerne as your base to visit nearby Dorset, Devon and the coast or stay around locally and explore the sights, you can be sure of a warm welcome in Crewkerne and our neighbouring villages.
You haven't 'done' Crewkerne until you have...
There are so many hidden delights that even people who live here may not yet have discovered - these are just a few of my favourites...
- Wandered around 'shady' Bincombe, watched the squirrels scampering in the beech trees and admired the superb view of the town from the north - great picnic spot...
- Followed your nose around the extensive 'lanes' that meander into our market town from the hills all around. One has a tiny tunnel, another enters the churchyard from an ancient pathway...
- Found the pub where Medieaval England is, quite literally, right under your feet...
- Found the Pople's Well and made a wish...
If YOU have 'done' Crewkerne and have a suggestion for someone else to explore, please drop me a line and I'll add it to the list!
Enjoy your visit!
